Kent Scouts Microlight and Power Kit Experience at KIJ09
Kent Scouts own and operate a microlight aircraft. Imagine blasting down the runway... before the pilot eases forward on his control bar to take you skybound for an unforgettable flight over the Kent countryside. Microlighting is one of the purest forms of aviation, guaranteed to bombard the senses and give an amazing introduction to the joys of flight. Please be aware that this activity will not operate from the KIJ site and numbers are restricted. Further, it may not be possible until the day or even on arrival at the airfield to determine if weather conditions will be favourable for flight.
To make the most of your time at the airfield, while you're not flying in the microlight or assisting with ground crew duties, you'll be having a blast on our fleet of power kites – the activity that converts wind into adrenaline! A power kite is a large kite designed to provide significant amounts of pull to the kite flyer. They are very controllable - meaning you can harness the power to get pulled across a field - scudding on your feet, on a mountainboard, or in a buggy. Whilst on the ground during your Microlight experience you will have about 1.5 hours to learn the basics of flying power kites. We'll give you a great introduction to the sport, and you'll leave us as a competent kite pilot! Ticket AllocationThis activity is only available to participants over the age of 14 at the date of the flight who have submitted a permission form. You will be notified of acceptance and allocated a date and time slot. Permission formPlease download and print the permission form marking on it your Group and Subcamp. Once complete, please post to: The KIJ Activities Manager Activity FormatYou will leave site at your allotted time (it is your responsibility to be at the shuttle bus on time). You will travel for approximately one hour to the airfield at Paddock Wood, Kent. While on the ground, you will get approximately 1.5 Hrs power kiting instruction. After your two hour stay at the airfield you will return to the Jamboree site. We will allocate your flight slot on one of your Sub Camp Activity days. This will mean that whilst away from the camp for about half a day you will still have the rest of the flight day and another whole day on site to experience the site activities. | ![]() |
